EAA Chapter 1327
Meeting
Don Bierly’s workshop
Ron Bowman presiding
Eric Fromm introduced his guest, Mike Rock. Everyone enjoyed looking at Bob Sherwood’s almost full scale Spad 13 in the workshop. Ron gave a few of our own WAA calendars to a few “friends of the Chapter”.
Ron asked for ideas, throughout this year, about future meetings: where, when, topics
Members dues will be free the year following a year in which they conduct 10 Young Eagle flights. Malcolm Morrison reported a few almost flew that many last year.
Grove moved, Hines seconded we send one or two young adults
to the summer EAA Camp at
Treasurer Dave Dix reported a balance of $1626.41. Motion by Hines, second by Grove to reduce annual dues to $12. Motion passed.
Our chapter has a small “library” of books, films, etc. Perhaps Brian Rodgers of UNV could provide a small storage space?
Malcolm’s Pietenpol is about 80% complete, and may fly this Fall or next Summer. He says it is a blend of many “better ideas” and a few of his own. He showed the prop he is carving from laminated local maple. He also showed the 16 pound, 18 gallon gas tank he built. He discussed the many complexities of working with lastofoam, sandwiched between 2 layers of fiberglass, using vinylester resin. (The moral of his story: Do not try this at home.)
Don Bierly showed the simple but very effective engine dehumidifier he built from a plastic pretzel jar filled with silica. An aquarium pump gently pushes air into the engine
to insure corrosion free cylinder walls. It was only a few dollars, vs. $300 to $500 commercial versions.
We all thanked Don for providing our meeting site, and the hot chocolate and home made muffins, too.
